About Newark Arts:

Newark Arts Council (NAC, aka Newark Arts) is a key anchor institution that drives Newark as a global City of the Arts. Founded in 1981, for the past 43 years, Newark Arts has elevated Newark’s arts and culture ecosystem for the benefit of all Newarkers. Newark Arts’ overarching strengths are that it is a trusted intermediary, key collaborator, cultural vanguard/catalyst, and marketing machine for the city. By demonstrating Newark as a model of creative placemaking, we fuel Newark’s vibrancy and drive the arts as an economic lever for urban America.

About ArtSource:

For more than three decades Newark Arts has served as an umbrella organization for Newark, New Jersey’s arts communities. Representing hundreds of artists and more than 80 arts organizations, Newark Arts is a strategic partner on “creative placemaking” that spurs economic opportunities in the city.

Through Newark ArtSource, Newark Arts brokers relationships, connecting local artists and their work to major development projects throughout the City. With some $4 billion in development in the city, Newark Arts serves as an intermediary for developers that are building new buildings or revitalizing old structures and want their spaces to reflect local culture.

About the Opportunity:

Newark Arts is thrilled to announce an open call for visual artists and curators to join our Artist Registry. This registry will serve as the primary method for selecting artists and curators for current and future Newark Arts’ projects, exhibitions, programs, and initiatives throughout 2025 (excluding Newark Arts Festival). Opportunities span the range from commissioned art installations to curated exhibitions.

We encourage visual artists and visual arts curators from diverse backgrounds, working in various mediums, to apply and be considered for these exciting, paid opportunities.

The roster will remain active for one year, after which a new artist call will be issued. Inclusion in the Newark Arts’ Artist Registry does not guarantee a commission.
